Can I sell my finished product for profit?
Yes! Our mold designs are copyrighted but the finished castings may be used for your own personal financial gain.

Is Cotton Press cotton and additive acid free so I can use it with my memory books?
Yes, it is acid free. You will love adding this new dimension to your memory books. Many of our designs were made specifically for this use such as "Scallop Frame", "Climbing Rose", "Checkerboard Frame", and "Ribbon Heart". There are many others that can also be adapted. If they are sprayed with our Clear Fixative Spray they will become hard and durable and will not lose their shape when even on the inside of your books.

Can I make the pulp ahead of time?
Yes, you can make it days before you use it. If longer than a couple of days then just refrigerate it. Longer than that, squeeze the moisture out of it like you would do to make a snowball and freeze it. Later when you want to use it, thaw it and put it in the blender with water to make it into a soft pulp again.

Can I put the pulp in the mold when it is still hot from the last use?
When the mold is hot it will dry even faster so no need to wait for it to cool. Use it just the same as you would if it were cool.

I only have one mold, what is the fastest way to dry it?
We like using a hair dryer turned on high heat but the microwave is also fast. The microwave can not be used for longer than two minutes at a time. Open the door every two minutes to let the steam escape (wait at least 30 seconds) and heat one more time.

I want to make a lot of castings and have several molds, what is the fastest way to dry them?
The oven or a jet stream oven is great! The oven at 325 degrees will dry molds in 10 - 12 minutes or the jet stream will dry in 5 minutes.

The casting has a little bit of yellow tinge to it, what happened?
If you used the mold for cookies, it needs to be washed with soap and water again, or you sprayed too much Mold release onto the mold. Just lightly mist the mold with the release. You can re-blend the casting in the blender to use again.

What is the difference between Cotton Press cotton linter sheets and toilet paper or paper towels for making castings?
There is a BIG difference! First of all, our cotton linter sheets are pure unprocessed cotton. Linter is the short fiber next to the cotton seed and because of the size of its fiber when it is made into a pulp is able to reproduce the detailed impression of our molds. It is also acid free. The linter breaks down into a pulp that is east to spread evenly over the mold for a smooth and detailed casting. The other fibers in the toilet paper or paper towels can not do this and they are not acid free.

Can I use food coloring to dye the cotton pulp?
Food coloring will dye the water but not the cotton. Food coloring dye does not bond to the cotton. Think of the fiber as fabric and use any fabric dye. The color in soft construction paper transfers its dye to the pulp as well. For the construction paper dye, tear a 2" or 3" square piece and place in the blender with the cotton sheet and it will color the pulp.

What can I use to paint my cotton art?
Our favorite is powder makeup -- blush or eye shadows! Use the same little sponge applicator to rub the color onto the dried casting that comes with the make-up. Other applications are soft pastel chalks, acrylic paints, glitters an even permanent marker pens. Water colors are very lovely but work best if the dried cotton art is first sprayed with our Spray Clear Sealant to keep the wet paints from spreading.

If I paint my cotton art and change my mind about the colors, can I make it into pulp again?
Yes! Cotton Press art is very forgiving! If you have used only make-up, pastels, or water colors then throw the whole casting into the blender for a second chance. If painted with acrylics, tear out any spots that are very dark with color and re-blend. You don't need to add more additive. (This is also true, if casting gets dirty or torn -- just re-blend.)

Does Cotton Press ever consider making custom molds with a personalized design?
We are always open to suggestions and want to hear from you! But, because the molds are very expensive to manufacture, we listen to what people are requesting and then choose the most popular designs.
